NY Philharmonic's Summertime Classics concerts, with conductor Bramwell Tovey.   More details about the performances are available at nyphil.org/summertime

What we'll be doing

Volunteers will serve as Greeters as first time attendees are entering the hall.  We'll have a table set up in the main lobby, with free gifts for the first time single ticket buyers we have reached out to.  The Greeters will hand out the gifts, answer questions about the Philharmonic and the hall, and then accompany ticket buyers up the escalator or elevator to show them where the bathroom is on their level of the hall and where to find the door to get to their seats.

What you should know

Tickets to the concert(s) will be provided to all Greeters.  Dress will be all black, and the NY Philharmonic will provide name tags/badges to help ticket buyers identify them as Greeters.

"Founded in 1842, the New York Philharmonic is by far the oldest symphony orchestra in the United States, and one of the oldest in the world. It currently plays some 180 concerts a year, and on May 5, 2010, gave its 15,000th concert — a milestone unmatched by any other symphony orchestra. Alan Gilbert began his tenure as Music Director in 2009, the latest in a distinguished line of musical giants that has included Lorin Maazel, Kurt Masur, Zubin Mehta, Pierre Boulez, and Leonard Bernstein. Since its inception the Orchestra has championed the new music of its time, commissioning or premiering many important works, such as Dvořák's Symphony No. 9, From the New World; Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3; Gershwin's Concerto in F; and Copland's Connotations. This pioneering tradition continues to the present day, with works of major contemporary composers scheduled each season, including John Adams's On the Transmigration of Souls; Magnus Lindberg's EXPO; and Christopher Rouse's Odna Zhizn.
